1490 The Jock will provide Yankees baseball again for the 2016 season. Last season the Yankees won the first wild card spot in the American League before falling the Houston in the wild card game.
During spring training Alex Rodriguez said that he would retire after his contract expires after the 2017 season. The Yankees made a number of offseason moves. They made a splash in bringing 25 year old Starlin Castro in a trade with the Cubs. Though inconsistent, plenty of upside remains with Castro.
After seeing the success that Kansas City has had with the backend of their bullpen over the past 2 seasons, the Yankees went out and aquired Aroldis Chapman from the Reds. The lefty fireballer had an offseason domestic violance case that will cost him time, but adding him among with Dellin Betances and Andrew Miller to a formidable bullpen to shorten games.
The starting rotation will begin the year with Masahiro Tanaka, Michael Pineda, Nathan Eovaldi, Luis Severino and CC Sabathia who comes back after leaving the team at the end of last season to deal with an alcohol problem.
Around the infield the Yankees start Chase Headley at 3rd, Didi Gregorious manning shortstop, new addition Starlin Castro at 2nd base and 1st baseman Mark Teixeira with Brian McCann behind the plate and Alex Rodriguez as the DH. Left to right across the outfield Joe Giardi will have Brett Gardner, Jacoby Ellsbury and Carlos Beltran.
Another right race looks to be brewing in the American League East. Returning champion Toronto brings back a potent offense, Boston made many moves along with their influx of young talent and Baltimore and Tampa Bay have their sights set on a run back to the playoffs.
You can catch all the Yankees action on 1490 The Jock from opening day through the playoffs!
